Having a dirty condenser can cause all sorts of issues. It can cause the unit not to cool efficiency, run longer, work harder and put more strain on the system. This can cause overheating of the compressor, which can damage the internal windings on the compressor.
A well maintained condenser should be clean on all 4 sides.
