What is a Heat Pump?

In today’s video, Riley answers questions about heat pumps and their applicability.

Essentially, a Heat Pump is an AC that also reverses for heating as well as cooling. So, in the summertime it will cool your house and in the wintertime it will heat the house, helping to reduce the electric bill.

The only time it’s not applicable to have a heat pump is if you have natural gas, which is significantly cheaper than electric.

The way that the heat pump works is that it has a reversing valve on the outdoor unit that switches over the flow of refrigerant. By absorbing heat outside and pushing it inside, it heats your house. Then in the AC operation, it switches back to absorb heat inside and reject it outside.
