Why does the heater smell each winter?

As you can see, it’s sweatshirt season. You know this is a good time for us to get out there and check your heaters and make sure your air handlers are working properly.

We get a big question this time of year. Why does it always smell when I first turned on the heater in the winter?

If your filters are dirty, you get a lot of dust that settles on the electric coils, and once you kick them on, it starts burning that dust off. That’s the smell you’re smelling throughout your house.

That smell is nothing to worry about. But if it continues to happen for a long time, give us a call. We’ll come out and check it and we can do a maintenance while we’re out there to make sure everything’s running smoothly.
